Longer description
Planning:
Months 1-3: Establish an objective & business plan
We have taken a careful and cautious approach to our overall business plan. How exactly can we create a viable business that builds from expensive sustainable and ethical practices? How we will identify our market segment - how can we can expand this? How will our business work day-to-day? All these questions must be answered with practicality and ambition!
Month 4: Identify sustainable and ethical business practices
Our most crucial step. Identifying manufactures & marketers that share our green values is key to ensuring our sustainable principles are consistently upheld. Moreover, creating a way forward, that ensures the business retains the principles its built from, is a key part of our planning.
Brand launch:
Month 5:
Mobilising our business
A very nerve-wracking stage! But with careful planning and confidence it's certainly achievable. We've ensured the implementing of our plan and mobilisation of our business was stable through thorough reconsideration and consistent focus.
Month 6: Begin tracking traffic & sales to identify patterns
We want our mission to be as loud as possible. We are constantly looking at our traffic sources to identify where potential-customer reception is highest. Moreover, we also focus on the areas our traffic is lacking - areas we know that our sustainable message just isn't getting across. Data analysis is always a key to our business.
Month 7: Launch principle-focused marketing
We value two things: expanding the climate-conscious community and building our business. As such, a priority focus for us has always been educationally-focused marketing. The more people become aware of their own role in climate change, the more our business values can be respected and we can grow. Thus a large part of our time is thinking of marketing communications we can try & test!
Month 8 [onward]: Continue expansion of brand awareness and sustainable-ethical consumer education into the future
Our business is still growing. We're taking our time to ensure our practices stick true to principle. Our marketing is still in an experimental stage. Our logistics are still open for adaptation. As such, we are opting for slow and steady expansion.
Tips/Comments
Building a clothing brand is difficult. Epically when building from expensive sustainable & ethical practices. Past & current businesses have managed to create easy profit margins from unsustainable practices. It is more difficult to work along the sustainable methods - yet it is so much more rewarding.
Research. Then research some more. Learn how sustainability works in the business world. Understand the role of GOTS and FairWear Approved certificates. Identify those who you want to work with - who share your same sustainable focus.
The sustainable-business community is growing rather vastly. There are others around you who want you to develop - tap into this support. Always ensure you stick true to the principles you started the business with.
Initial start-up costs approximately £900. After this, marketing, maintenance & upkeeping is roughly £50-200 p/month dependent on business activity
